If You’re Going To San Francisco…🎵

Dear appreciator of love and magic Sara,

There's a wonderfull song from 1967 by Scott McKenzie called San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair).

My previous fiancé, John, was rehearsing that very song to sing to me at our wedding in 2016—but he died in March of that year. Ever since, I haven't been able to listen to the song without crying.

Recently, I visited Golden Gate Park in San Francisco to see the magnolias in bloom. As I wandered, I came across a young woman sitting cross-legged on the ground with a sketchbook, drawing flowers. I stopped to talk to her—and then I noticed: she had wildflowers woven into her hair.

I told her about the song and played a bit of it on my phone. Later, I went rowing on the lake and kept the song playing over and over. And I realized something beautifull:

John was helping me make a new memory with that song.

I put it on my speaker and turned up the volume. People in boats began rowing toward me and calling out, "Is that the song I think it is?"

"It is," I said, smiling. And then I noticed—I was actually smiling about this song.

And then I had another realization:

God brought me a man who actually wears flowers in his hair!
Here is my darling husband and Angel of Love David, in a photo from 2019.

And today—this story shows up right on my birthday day of April 19.
Yes! I've been celebrating all month (of course I have) and I will continue.

April is wrapping me up in music, miracles and tears that don't need fixing.

The song still stirs my soul.

And soul stirring feels like the real celebration. Sending you that, and beauty that moves you in just the right ways.

If you're going to San Francisco

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

If you're going to San Francisco

You're gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco

Summertime will be a love-in there

In the streets of San Francisco

Gentle people with flowers in their hair

All across the nation

Such a strange vibration

People in motion

There's a whole generation

With a new explanation
